Today is my last day of CCIE Bootcamp. Actually we still have 2 days next week. But I believe the condition as here in Puncak :) I am sad to know that :( There are 50 people join this program in the beginning. But until last day, there are around 30 people still survive :)
I meet a lot of people here. I am very happy to meet new friends that have the same dream :) Then we share each other. If I have problem in my lab or any subject I don't know or I am confused, I can ask to the trainer Mr. Dedi Gunawan as the trainer and also founder this program or I can ask Mr. Andi Maulana, the participant and also the trainer, or I can ask Mr. Bagus Utomo, the participant but have attempted the lab, or I can ask Rusmin from Cisco, Aristo from BNI, Ikhwan from NSN, Rizal, Deni from Multipolar, and many more. This is the power of this bootcamp with the motto from engineer to engineer.
From now on, I would like to share the knowledge to others. I will update my blog and I must be trainer... Yes, I have to do at least once per month. So I can remember the subject as I am not working hands on directly the node and also being trainer, we will open a book again if any question come up that we don't know.
At 8.00 AM, we have switching class. We can't demo this lab as no body bring the switch. But it's okay. I already test this lab before and I will do lab this subject again in the future.
The switching or L2 subject include EtherChannel,
By this EtherChannel, we can combine many physical interface in one group. Let say we have 2 interface using fast ethernet. Then by this, as logical we have 1 interface with 200 Mbps.
EtherChannel can be L2 or L3. EtherChannel in L2 i.e. LACP which is open standard and PagP which is Cisco Proprietary.
PagP have 2 mode negotiation i.e. desirable and auto. The PagP can nor work using both auto in switch-1 and switch-2 but it works using all desirable. So at least one etherchannel should be desirable.
LACP also have 2 mode negotiation i.e. active and passive. One EtherChannel shoul be active.
EtherChannel L3 only use mode on and add command 'no switchport' to make as L3 in the interface.
Then we learn about SPAN and RSPAN. SPAN and RSPAN is used for mirroring. The different SPAN and RSPAN is SPAN using one switch for source and destination port and in RSPAN have 2 switch which one switch being reflector-port to another switch.
Then we learn about STP or Spanning tree, RSTP, PortFast, UplinkFast, BackboneFast, Root Guard, BPDU Guard, BPDU Filter, MSTP, and Private VLAN.
Then we learn about QinQ tunneling and L2 Protocol Forwarding, and security in L2 such as traffic-rate storm control, vlan-access map, port security, port security violation action, and port security violation recovery.
I will show you all the lab in the future.

Day-8 CCIE Bootcamp Indonesia
Today we have full lab simulation. It took 2 hours for troubleshooting session and 6 hours for configuration.
In troubleshooting the question around 10-15 questions. Again I failed! :)
Then we have 6 hours to do configuration session.
Fiuhhhhh..... I need more exercise... again practice, practice, and practice

Day-7 CCIE Bootcamp Indonesia
Yesterday I had 5 troubleshooting section which every section took 2 hours. The test started at 9 AM and finish at 12 PM. The troubleshooting section include all CCIE R&S material i.e.
I failed all the test :( It's good so I have to think again what I must do to pass the test, what subject need more attention to learn, what my strategy to pass my 1st lab, etc. It's very hard to learn the subject and pass the exam but the hardest one is my self. I need to convince my self that I can fight, that I can go for certification with or without company support, that I can study and practice the material all the time I have, no more shopping every weekend, no more HBO, Cinemax, or Star Movie at home, no more weekend with family for a moment, no more playing game, etc. Forget every thing for a moment. I must put on my mind, it's only and only I have to do is practice, practice, and practice all the material!!!
Ya Allah, please help me to pass the exam and make me easy to study the material.
- IP Routing. IP routing cover RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, & MPLS
- L2 or Switching
- IP Service. IP service include DHCP server, HSRP, VRRP, GLBP, Core Dump FTP, NTP, SNMP, EEM etc
- Multicast
- Optimize the network or QoS

Day-6 CCIE Bootcamp Indonesia
Yesterday we learnt about QoS, IP Services, & NAT. In the night we had troubleshooting section. The question mixed from all CCIE R&S subject. I get 8 from 13 questions. Fiuh, I am still failed.
I lost much time to find the answer. I think the problem why I take too time to find and solve the issue because lack of my knowledge in verification the protocol or service using 'show' command. Most the time, I use ' show running configuration'. I think it's not good. Checking running configuration is the last option to check after all verification.
Besides that, I am still poor in MPLS and QoS knowledge. I think we get 2 question about MPLS and 3 question about QoS.
Like or not that the fact that I still need much time to study and practice all the CCIE R&S matter. In CCIE Bootcamp I study roughly from 8 AM to 12 PM. It's around 14 hours per day. Now it's already the sixth day. I need to continue what I already begin! The consistent is the key.
Let's move forward guys!!! As the tagline in our camp "Cisco, please give me the number" so I want to take my number that already reserved for me :D "The beautiful number here we go".

Day-5 CCIE Bootcamp Indonesia
Today we learn about MPLS and Multicast. In the night we have troubleshooting section. I get 3 of 5 question... Again I still fail. But it's ok. Now I know I must learn so much to achieve the target even my foundation of CCIE knowledge is still poor...
I need to think again do I need CCIE??? Again the question come to my mind! Is it about money??? I don't think so. If it's about money, better I just being entrepreneur.. It's about overseas??? Maybe yes maybe no... But I think working in telecommunication make me more chance to work overseas! I think much people know and expert in Cisco!!! I think it's about my dream... By taking CCIE, I will learn so much not just Cisco... I will learn about never give up, always update knowledge, learn and share to others etc. I can be entrepreneur also by creating small company or maybe being independent consultant :) I don't know I just want to pass the exam and study about networking especially Cisco stuff...
It's enough!!! Let's back for the course.
MPLS ??? What is MPLS??? I think we can find easily about that in internet. But the question what is the advantage of MPLS:
In MPLS, there are 3 types router in MPLS:
There are some command need to add in basic MPLS:
1. vrf
2. rd
3. route target
4. MP-BGP
Here step by step to activate MPLS:
1. Activate IGP inside P and PE. All P and PE must communicate each other
2. Activate BGP between PE
3. Activate MPLS in interface P-PE, P-P, and PE-PE
4. Create VRF in PE router
5. Put VRF in interface PE that going to CE. Add command 'ip vrf xxx' in global config
6. Activate MP-BGP between PE. add command 'address-family vpnv4' inside BGP routing
7. Add routing between PE-CE
Let's move to Multicast. Multicast is transferring traffic from one to many.
Multicast routing has:
1. Dense mode
2. Sparse Mode
3. Sparse-Dense Mode

MPLS ??? What is MPLS??? I think we can find easily about that in internet. But the question what is the advantage of MPLS:
- MPLS support multi-service. It support legacy network such frame relay, atom, L2/L3, ATM, etc
- MPLS can differentiate the service or customer. Let's say we have 5 customer in our network. By using MPLS, the different customer will not communicate each other.
- The IP address can be the same using different vrf.
- The resource of router will decrease as in MPLS using label.
In MPLS, there are 3 types router in MPLS:
- P router is provider router. It's only label switch (LSR). Only works MPLS no any MP-BGP inside P router.
- PE router is provider edge router. It works as LSP (label switch path). PE router have MP-BGP and also MPLS. Before MPLS established, need IGP to communicate P-P, P-PE, and PE-PE.
- CE router is customer edge. Just like normal router. It will connect to PE. To communicate to PE, need IGP or BGP.

Day-4 CCIE Bootcamp Indonesia
We learn BGP in day-4. In the night we have troubleticket session. I do troubleshoot 5 from 9 questions. Again still failed!!!
There are 2 routing protocol:
1. IGP (interior gateway protocol). Protocol is used in the same AS number. IGP have 2 type static and dynamic routing. Dynamic routing have 2 type, distance vector such as RIP, RIPv2, EIGRP, etc and link-state such as OSPF & ISIS.
2. EGP (exterior gateway protocol). Protocol is used in different AS. The example of EGP is BGP and EGP (already gone). Right now, internet cloud using BGP to communicate different AS.
BGP use rich metric or attribute. The BGP have many attribute and here the summary.
BGP attribute generally have 2 types, WELL-KNOWN and OPTIONAL. WELL-KNOWN means every vendor should have these attributes and OPTIONAL means not all vendor support the attribute.
WELL-KNOWN have MANDATORY(must have) and DISCRETIONARY (will appear if there is additional command). Mandatory have AS-PATH, NEXT-HOP, and ORIGIN (i, e, and ?).
Discretionary have LOCAL PREFERENCE to influence outgoing traffic and AUTOMIC AGGREGATE which is route summarization.
OPTIONAL have TRANSITIVE means the attribute will be passed by the router even it does not support and NON-TRANSITIVE which if the router does not know about the attribute, it will be dropped.
TRANSITIVE have AGGREGATOR which is the router do the route summarization and COMMUNITY.
COMMUNITY have 4 types i.e.
1. no-export. It means be able to advertise to iBGP but no to eBGP
2. no-advertise. It means no advertise both iBGP and eBGP
3. internet. It means advertise both iBGP and eBGP
4. local-as. It means be able to advertise to iBGP but no to eBGP but this only for BGP confederation.
NON-TRANSITIVE have MED to influence the inbound traffic, ORIGINATOR which is route reflector, and CLUSTER-ID (if have many route reflectors).

Day-3 tshoot session is my desperate night!!!
In day-3, we learn OSPF, mutual redistribution, & IPv6. Then in the night, we had troubleshooting class. There was 10 question and I can only solve one!!! what the h3l#???
I realize that I need to learn and practice extra more than people took the bootcamp. Here my time to strengthen my basic knowledge with all area. Thanks God we have a lots friends here for beginner to expert.
Yesterday, I try to understand more about OSPF concept that I think my weakness.
If using ethernet, by default the type of OSPF is broadcast. But, it can be problem, if the interface set to point-to-multipoint. So if the topology using ethernet, the OSPF type should change to broadcast!
How about the frame-relay??? This is the originating make my frustration!!! There is no OSPF adjacency neighbor in my lab!!!
Actually frame-relay is NBMA which is by default non-broadcast OSPF type! Here the summary:
Frame relay type is non broadcast by default. The adjacency will not come up even you wait until you die! How to to make it up? Good quetion! There are 5 ways:
Now, how about stub, NSSA, bla bla bla??? Here we go
This is the clue:
1. If one area in the router using stub/nsa, another router with the same area should have stub also
2. Stub or NSSA with no-summary (totally) should in ABR router.

Day-3 CCIE Bootcamp Indonesia
In day 3, we learn about OSPF, Mutual Redistribution, and IPv6. In the night around 9 PM to 12 PM, we had troubleshoot test. This troubleshooting section, made me headache. I need to learn so much :(
In OSPF, I learn that every area must connected to backbone area (area 0). If not, need virtual link or can be solved by GRE tunneling. Then in OSPF have 7 LSA that need to know. If I am not wrong there were 11 LSA in OSPF CMIIW.
In OSPF, we should know OSPF type. The type of OSPF:
1. Broadcast. DR/BDR elected automatically. Hello interval is 10 and Dead interval is 40.
2. Non-broadcast. DR/BDR required. Hello interval is 30 and Dead interval is 120.
3. Point-to-point. No DR/BDR. Hello interval is 10 and Dead interval is 40.
4. Point-to-multipoint. No DR/BDR. Hello interval is 30 and Dead interval is 120.
5. Point-to-multipoint non broadcast. No DR/BDR. Hello interval is 30 and Dead interval is 120.
OSPF type based on area, there is:
Redistribute in OSPF must use subnet such as redistribute xxx subnet.
Mutual distribution issue can be solved by change using distance command or route tagging.
IPv6 have 128 bit. IP address in IPv6 are link local address, unique local address, and global unicast address.
There are 5 tunneling from IPv6 to IPv4:
1. IPv6 tunnel IPv6IP, using IPv6 address, need source & destination
2. IPv6 tunnel GRE IP (by default), using IPv6 address, need source & destination
3. IPv6 tunnel 6to4, using IPv6 combine with IP source (IPv4), need source but no destination
4. IPv6 tunnel ISATAP, IPv6, need source but no destination
5. IPv6 tunnel Auto-Tunnel, no need IP, need source but no destination
In OSPF, I learn that every area must connected to backbone area (area 0). If not, need virtual link or can be solved by GRE tunneling. Then in OSPF have 7 LSA that need to know. If I am not wrong there were 11 LSA in OSPF CMIIW.
- LSA Type-1 or router LSA. The LSA update from router within the same area. The sign in routing update is O.
- LSA Type-2 or network LSA. The update from DR.
- LSA type-3 or summary LSA. The update from ABR for inter-area route. The sign in routing update is O IA.
- LSA type-4 or ASBR-summary LSA. The update from ABR to ASBR
- LSA type-5 or AS-External LSA. The update from ASBR from other redistribute routing area such as RIP, OSPF, etc. The sign in routing update is O E1 or O E2 which is E2 is default. E2 means no metric changes form ASBR to receiver router. E1 will makes the the cost change (increment).
- LSA type-6 or Multicast-LSA. Used for Multicast in OSPF. Not supported by Cisco
- LSA type-7 or NSSA External-LSA. The update is from ASBR that is NSSA. Actually the LSA-7 is translated from LSA type-5. The sign in routing update is O N1 or O N2. O N2 is default and the cost not change and the cost in O N1 is change (increment).
In OSPF, we should know OSPF type. The type of OSPF:
1. Broadcast. DR/BDR elected automatically. Hello interval is 10 and Dead interval is 40.
2. Non-broadcast. DR/BDR required. Hello interval is 30 and Dead interval is 120.
3. Point-to-point. No DR/BDR. Hello interval is 10 and Dead interval is 40.
4. Point-to-multipoint. No DR/BDR. Hello interval is 30 and Dead interval is 120.
5. Point-to-multipoint non broadcast. No DR/BDR. Hello interval is 30 and Dead interval is 120.
OSPF type based on area, there is:
- Standard area. All area must connect to backbone area.
- Stub area. Only allowed LSA type-1 to type-3. No receive route from outside. LSA type-4 and LSA type-5 is discarded. The stub area is in ABR.
- Totally stub area or stub no-summary. The same like stub area but in LSA Type-3 only default route. The stub area is in ABR.
- 3. NSSA area. Allowed only LSA type-1,2,3, and 7. No LSA type-4 and 5 but can receive routing from outside OSPF. The LSA type-7 is outside routing update. The NSSA is in ASBR.
- 4. Totally NSSA area or NSSA no-summary. The different with NSSA, there is no routing from inter area, it's just default route.
Redistribute in OSPF must use subnet such as redistribute xxx subnet.
Mutual distribution issue can be solved by change using distance command or route tagging.
IPv6 have 128 bit. IP address in IPv6 are link local address, unique local address, and global unicast address.

Day-2 CCIE Bootcamp Indonesia
In day-2, we learnt about RIP & EIGRP stuff. In the night we have troubleshoot section regarding this subject.
RIP use hop count for metric and EIGRP use bandwidth & delay for metric.
RIP have 2 version i.e. RIP and RIPv2.
The different is RIP is classfull and update routing using broadcast (255.255.255.255) and RIPv2 is classless and update using multicast (224.0.0.9).
RIP use UDP port 520 for routing update to other router.
Here the subject in RIP that we focus on:
1. Update
2. Metric
3. Split Horizon
4. Security
5. Summary
6. Filtering
7. Default Route
8. Timers
I will go one by one for detail lab to practice the command.
EIGRP use multicast (224.0.0.10) for update. EIGRP has best route and backup route if best route is unavailable. The term for that is successor (best path) and feasible successor (backup best path). EIGRP is only support by md5 authentication. Such as RIP, redistribution from other dynamic IGP in EIGRP need metric. EIGRP support equal and unequal load balancing. By default, equal load balancing is enable to 4 links and maximum is 6 links. Unequal load balancing use by command 'variance' which biggest FD / lowest FD. FD is link from router to next hop router + AD (next hop router to destination).
Then around 9 PM, we had troubleshoot ticket about EIGRP & RIP. I just finished 4 questions from 10. Oh God, please help me...

Day-1 CCIE Bootcamp Indonesia
I arrived in Villa Gunung Puncak, Cisarua, Bogor at 11.40 AM. I think around 50 people join bootcamp. Then we start the class around 2 PM until 12 PM. For sure, there was a break with praying, lunch, and dinner.
Today we learn about Frame Relay. Even this technology already old and I seldom see this technology still used in customer router but until now Cisco still put this technology in CCIE blue print. So, like or not, we have to learn about this.
Then, we are here to study about this stuff. Actually Frame Relay is layer-2 technology. There are some types of frame relay that we need to know i.e.
1. Point-to-point. Using point to point, it’s not need mapping L2 to L3 as only have one DLCI.
2. Point-to-Multipoint. With this, mapping L2 to L3 is required both dynamic using inverse-arp or can be static mapping.
3. Hub & Spoke. Communication between spoke is done via hub. With this type dynamic mapping only can be done from spoke to hub. That’s why communication between spoke must use static mapping. Broadcast keyword command only need per DLCI to IP going to hub.
At 8.30 PM, we have troubleshoot section. We have 10 question and I can solve only 4 question. Oh God, I need more practice! Please help me… So let’s start my CCIE journey and I hope this blogs give benefit to others who have the dream with me.
For detailed lab, I will do show one by one.

Story behind why I want CCIE?
Before I going to my lab one by one, I’d like to tell the behind story why I want to be CCIE… It was long time ago September 2008 when I join Nokia Siemens Networks as PS/IP Planning, I am already in love with networking and I think Cisco is the best technology to learn as the market leader and the knowledge can be easily find in Internet. I don’t need to work in Cisco partner to learn about this. It is really different with telecommunication industry. Oh ya, my job is only planning and somehow the stuff is not Cisco. So I need a lot of practices to go for it. Then I take CCIE SP Written in 2009. At that time I promise to my self that I would like to go to CCIE. But time to time it was just the dream. No action talk only! I plan to go for CCIE bootcamp but it’s too expensive :(
July 2011, I took CCIE RS written as CCIE SP already changes using IOS-XR and my CCIE SP written already expired. I think I need to change to other CCIE. RS is the best choice I guess. Then when I saw there is CCIE Bootcamp with only Rp 1.4 M. I think it’s my time to go for RS. Thanks god there was somebody wants to help my dream. Thank to Mr. Dedi Gunawan for his dedication and also Mr Himawan Nugroho for his sharing. But after thinking, I need to refresh my knowledge in CCNP & CCIP before going to real lab and also if I take this training I will get free for CCIE bootcamp. Besides that, I have a lots time in practicing the labs if taking this course. So, here I am... CCIE wannabe :)
