In OSPF, I learn that every area must connected to backbone area (area 0). If not, need virtual link or can be solved by GRE tunneling. Then in OSPF have 7 LSA that need to know. If I am not wrong there were 11 LSA in OSPF CMIIW.
- LSA Type-1 or router LSA. The LSA update from router within the same area. The sign in routing update is O.
- LSA Type-2 or network LSA. The update from DR.
- LSA type-3 or summary LSA. The update from ABR for inter-area route. The sign in routing update is O IA.
- LSA type-4 or ASBR-summary LSA. The update from ABR to ASBR
- LSA type-5 or AS-External LSA. The update from ASBR from other redistribute routing area such as RIP, OSPF, etc. The sign in routing update is O E1 or O E2 which is E2 is default. E2 means no metric changes form ASBR to receiver router. E1 will makes the the cost change (increment).
- LSA type-6 or Multicast-LSA. Used for Multicast in OSPF. Not supported by Cisco
- LSA type-7 or NSSA External-LSA. The update is from ASBR that is NSSA. Actually the LSA-7 is translated from LSA type-5. The sign in routing update is O N1 or O N2. O N2 is default and the cost not change and the cost in O N1 is change (increment).
In OSPF, we should know OSPF type. The type of OSPF:
1. Broadcast. DR/BDR elected automatically. Hello interval is 10 and Dead interval is 40.
2. Non-broadcast. DR/BDR required. Hello interval is 30 and Dead interval is 120.
3. Point-to-point. No DR/BDR. Hello interval is 10 and Dead interval is 40.
4. Point-to-multipoint. No DR/BDR. Hello interval is 30 and Dead interval is 120.
5. Point-to-multipoint non broadcast. No DR/BDR. Hello interval is 30 and Dead interval is 120.
OSPF type based on area, there is:
- Standard area. All area must connect to backbone area.
- Stub area. Only allowed LSA type-1 to type-3. No receive route from outside. LSA type-4 and LSA type-5 is discarded. The stub area is in ABR.
- Totally stub area or stub no-summary. The same like stub area but in LSA Type-3 only default route. The stub area is in ABR.
- 3. NSSA area. Allowed only LSA type-1,2,3, and 7. No LSA type-4 and 5 but can receive routing from outside OSPF. The LSA type-7 is outside routing update. The NSSA is in ASBR.
- 4. Totally NSSA area or NSSA no-summary. The different with NSSA, there is no routing from inter area, it's just default route.
Redistribute in OSPF must use subnet such as redistribute xxx subnet.
Mutual distribution issue can be solved by change using distance command or route tagging.
IPv6 have 128 bit. IP address in IPv6 are link local address, unique local address, and global unicast address.
There are 5 tunneling from IPv6 to IPv4:
1. IPv6 tunnel IPv6IP, using IPv6 address, need source & destination
2. IPv6 tunnel GRE IP (by default), using IPv6 address, need source & destination
3. IPv6 tunnel 6to4, using IPv6 combine with IP source (IPv4), need source but no destination
4. IPv6 tunnel ISATAP, IPv6, need source but no destination
5. IPv6 tunnel Auto-Tunnel, no need IP, need source but no destination
